Position Summary:

Successful candidates will be responsible for field and shop skilled diagnostics, perform preventative maintenance service and repair of Suspension & Steering, Automatic Transmissions, Differentials, Electrical Systems, Wheelchair Ramps, and Air Conditioning Systems. Successful applicants must be able to work safety. Performs equipment and electrical troubleshooting to test operational efficiency of engines and drive train, hydraulic and exhaust systems, etc. and determines the cause(s) of malfunction(s). Prescribes and performs emergency repairs to equipment in the field. May provide lead work direction to other mechanics, semiskilled or unskilled workers and may direct shop operations in absence of supervisor. Performs related work as required. 

Core Competencies/Responsibilities:

  • Performs preventative maintenance inspections using system checklist and documents results.
  • Completes paperwork and computer entry for labor documentation and repair.
  • Fills out work orders specifying parts including his/her labor.
  • Scrubs floors and equipment used during work; cleans debris away from work area.
  • Assists other mechanics as requested and performs other duties as assigned.
  • Cleans repairs and replaces coach equipment as required.
  • Detect, diagnose, and repair mechanical and electrical defects sufficient to perform preventive maintenance on equipment. Included but not limited to Engines, Transmissions, Differential Units, Charging & Starting systems, Pumps, Suspension Systems, Brake Systems, Steering Components/Systems, Radiators, Injectors, Clutches, Air Conditioning Systems, and other vehicle components
  • Review Pre and Post-Trip inspections and repair any deficiencies discovered by operators
  • Perform required inspections and preventive maintenance on vehicles and equipment to maximize the safety, productivity, and life of the unit.
  • Use electronic, computerized, and/or precision measuring instruments sufficient to diagnose malfunctions in electrical systems and other essenüal components.
  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions sufficient to carry out repair orders and understand maintenance records and equipment specifications.
  • Performs all work in a safe manner, upholding local, state, and Federal Environmental, Health, and Safety guidelines Adhere to all safety rules and regulations Keep work areas clean 


  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have CDL or be able to obtain one within 90 days of employment. Acceptable Driving Record.
  • 5 years of experience in the repair and maintenance of bus or medium to heavy-duty truck or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Must have comprehensive knowledge of diesel engines and/or gasoline engines, automatic transmissions, Hydraulic brakes, steering and drivelines.
  • Must have basic to intermediate computer experience
  • Able to work without direct supervision.
  • Must be able to read, write and speak English; basic math skills.
  • Must be able and willing to work flexible schedule that may include nights and or overtime when needed.
  • Must able to work in a union environment. 
  • Must be able to perform physical activities including working on top of coaches and lifting up to fifty(50) pounds.

Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test.
